Mrs. Laurie Smith holds a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Holy Family University. Her undergraduate work in English, with a minor in history, was also completed at Holy Family University. Her background includes over 15 years of elementary and middle school experience within public schools and most recently, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Over the years, she has received multiple certifications in Social Studies, Math, History, and Crisis Prevention Intervention. She has spent these years within grades second through sixth. Mrs. Smith spent the majority of her career teaching sixth-grade Math and served as an Instructional & Behavioral Interventionist for several years. She was nominated as Bucks County Teacher of the Year in 2009 and continues to tutor former students in core subject areas. She has obtained 48 post-graduate credits focusing on advancements in special education and behavior management. Prior to choosing teaching as a second career, Mrs. Smith worked in the credit industry as a human resource consultant and training coordinator. She chose to become a teacher because she finds joy in watching children academically, emotionally, and socially grow into individuals. She leans on her faith to guide her lifelong desire to help every child find their unique talents. When she is not teaching in the classroom, Mrs Smith can be found reading a book by her pool, vacationing at a Disney property, or playing a board game with her three children and husband of eighteen years. She is an active St. Bede parishioner and supports many youth organizations, such as the Catholic Youth Organization. She is looking forward to using inquiry-based learning for controlled experiments that explore the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
